10 - Small, Special Items

Hello and welcome to episode 10 of the Gold Forest English podcast. My name is Jordan and today I want to talk about three small things that have made my life better. Three different products that have improved the quality of my life and made it either easier or more enjoyable in different ways.

So I have three different products, three things to talk about. One of them was cheap, one of them was medium, and the last is a bit more expensive. Let's start with the cheapest one.

This first item is something that many people have and carry on a daily basis. It's a folding shopping bag. Now I know what you might be thinking. That's a very basic, simple item and it is, it's just a small, lightweight bag that can easily fold and pack down to a small size. It's a very easy and basic idea, but it has really improved my life. It's very, very convenient. I carry one every day in my bag that I carry around. I always have a folding shopping bag inside and it comes in useful very, very often for just buying things in different shops. Many shops now will charge a small amount of money to get a plastic or paper bag, so it saves me money to have my own shopping bag. So I find it incredibly useful, and even though it's a very basic item, it has really improved my life quality.

The second thing I want to talk about is a pair of electric hand warmers. I bought a set of two electric hand warmers recently, about a month ago, as we were getting towards autumn and getting closer to winter. I wanted to get ready for the colder season, for the I know that disposable hand warmers are very common and cheap, but as I often have cold hands, I wanted something more reliable and maybe environmentally friendly than the disposable versions. So I bought these electronic hand warmers from a brand called Ocoopa, and I've been really impressed with them: convenient to carry, I can charge them with USB power. and they last for about seven hours. They get really nice and hot. They are very comfortable to hold and easy to put in my bag to carry through the day. I am incredibly happy with this purchase. It has really improved my life, especially as we're getting into this colder season.I often have cold hands, so it was a great purchase for me.

The last thing that I want to talk about is something that I bought several months ago. I purchased a set of smart LED light bulbs from Philips. I bought some Philips Hue lights. These were very expensive for light bulbs but they allow me to control my lights from my phone or my computer using a variety of different colours. Not super useful, not super practical, but it's very enjoyable and relaxing to be able to adjust the different colours and light intensity of my room. They allow me to adjust the mood of my bedroom, having a very energetic and bright light during the day to help keep me focused and awake, and then in the evening a much softer yellow, orange, red colour, which helps my brain to adjust to a more resting and relaxing feeling and getting ready for bed. So even though this was a very significant purchase, these bulbs are not cheap, I feel that they have really given me a good benefit. They have improved my life a lot.

So those are the three small items that I think make a big difference in my life, whether they're practical or just enjoyable. I think these are quite significant items, quite important in making a difference in the quality of my life.

Do you have any small items like these that improve your life? Take a moment and think what do you have in your life that might be small or inexpensive or unimportant but makes a real quality of life difference? I think it's something good to think about and appreciate the things that we have.

Okay, thank you very much for listening and I'll see you in the next episode.
